I wanted to include a red cabbage recipe -- not sure how to post on recipe sharing, so here it is: Oma's Red Cabbage 1 med. head red cabbage 1tbsp shortening or marg. (or I use olive oil) 1 bay leaf 2-3 cloves pinch of salt 6 allspice seeds (I skip) 1tbsp sugar 2tbsp vinegar 1/2 cup water 1-2 peeled, diced apples (great for using up those bumpy but flavorful Spys from our box) Shred cabbage. Melt butter/oil and put all of rest of ingredients. Cook 1-1.5 hours on low, adding extra salt/sugar/vinegar. Stir frequently, adding a little more water if needed. Can be frozen in smaller portions.
