Happy New Year

We've had a tremendously wonderful ringing in of the new year. I love even numbers, they feel good to me. We had a fun celebration with friends. It was an early night as we had all of the kids to get home to bed, but that was the plan - a kid happy event with a late, but reasonable bedtime.

On New Years day we celebrated my mothers birthday with a morning breakfast. Then off to get a load of wood which we unloaded at the new Swallows Nest. Hot chocolate and hang out time in front of the fire place and then onto potluck supper and games night with my father and family. A fun filled full day.

Today has been so great having this fun storm. We've adventured out and played in the wild wind and snow.

I had a moment today when I decided that I will begin a cabbage recipe creation project. I am going to figure out as many yummy cabbage recipes as I can over the next few months. I made a potato scallop the other night but I ended up adding carrots, parsnips, and turnip. It was so great - now I am wondering how cabbage scallop would taste. I will try it tomorrow and report back.

Josh and I are working on the final details of our OYF (Outstanding Young Farmer) forms. There is a lot to it and a lot of thinking. As we work on the OYF forms we are taming the eagerness we have for planning for the 2010 season.

We will harvest the greens in the greenhouse Monday and Tuesday for your shares. We will put a divider in the greenhouse after we harvest and heat only half for a month or so.

A very happy new year to you. We are so looking forward to this year and this new 2010 journey.

  3. Happy New Year Patricia - and everyone! I think you should let US fill out those forms for you. The judges would have a very easy task then!
I almost hesitate to admit this - but the latest issue of the Martha Stewart magazine has a whole section on cabbage - and some great looking recipes. They don't appear to be available on-line but I could photocopy the section and bring it over one Wednesday - with some spares for anyone else who's interested.

  4. Happy New Year to all at TapRoot & Happy Birthday to Jane,
I think a cabbage scallop would be called a cabbage 'gratin'.
Glad you made it home safely last week, Patricia.
